As with many of their best ideas, this one began with a simple need from Disney: "What can we provide for the guests when they're not in a theme park?"
The Marketplace, a simple collection of stores set around the then-new Buena Vista Lagoon, was the answer in March, 1975. "Enjoy shopping? We've got the Walt Disney World Village for 'ya! You can buy some groovy wide bellbottoms with an embroidered Goofy!" (Trivia: The name was not changed to the Marketplace until many years later.)
The styles may have changed through the years, but the pleasure of walking through an amazing collection of shops and eateries has only gotten better through the years. Interested? Let's explore my summaries of everything you can expect to find at the Marketplace!
You'll also have the opportunity to explore reviews from past guests of the Marketplace. I hope they've provided some helpful tips on the best stores for you to try!
Marketplace Details The Marketplace provides some of the best shopping opportunities at Walt Disney World. But there's much more! Rent a boat from the marina, dine from several excellent restaurants, and maybe catch some live entertainment at the Dock Stage!
